whats a csa

In essence a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) project involves a grower selling regular (weekly, bimonthly or monthly) allotments of produce to CSA members or "shareholders". The shareholders pay a set fee for this “subscription” to a farm but the content or type of produce will vary depending on the season. The main benefit to farmers is that it takes the uncertainty out of the business cycle providing a relatively regular income throughout most of the year. The benefit to shareholders is that they establish a relationship with the people that grow their food; receiving fresh, organic produce while having the satisfaction of helping to support local growers.
