Date created: January 24, 2012
Buttercup Farms staff were included in an Ashoka event at the Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville. They, of course, looked forward to meeting Buzz Lightyear and Woody, and were excited when they saw that Susan Sarandon would also be there, but they found more to spur their enthusiasm when they arrived at the event...

Meaningful Giving
Date created: December 06, 2011
We like the article on "Meaningful Giving" by Beth Davis that we found in the free publication we picked up at Whole Foods in Walnut Creek the other day (Natural Awakenings, East Bay Area Edition, December 2011, NAEastBay.com). While we understand the meaningfulness of a full stocking as abundant evidence of love, we especially appreciate the gifts of quality time spent together. Some of the best gifts received by farm folks this past year included a precious rescued kitten, who gives back to her owner with charm and love every day, visits by old friends and family that included quality time spent hiking and enjoying the farm's many treasures, and just the simple joy of helping each other with the many farm projects. Jorie's weekly column in the Concord Patch online newspaper and Jens' websites help to keep our far-flung community in touch.
It is nice to be in agreement with the kind of thinking found among Whole Food employees and customers. We are, in fact, providing the Eastern states' Whole Food stores with delicious vegetarian Chinese food through our Vege-Tables partner in New York. We hope we can soon extend our market to include Chinese and Mediterranean-style vegetarian foods to West Coast Whole Foods locations.
May we all work together to achieve increasingly healthy ways of eating and living.

Buttercup Farms' organic garden in Clayton, CA. Heirloom tomatoes, eggplant, green and wax beans, basil, zucchini and peppers abound, not to mention winter squash and pumpkins. Fall crops included lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and pakchoi. A lot of the produce is served at nearby restaurants and our store in the Gold Country, the Angels Camp Mercantile.
An extra pair of helping hands is always appreciated, so if you have time, like being outdoors, and are curious about organic gardening, contact Jorie at jorie@buttercupfarms.org or 925.524.0316 to learn more about volunteering in the garden.
